Dataverse 4.0: Permissions

Dataverse 4.0 has an entirely new way to grant access to a dataverse, dataset, and restricted files. Each dataverse and dataset has their own permissions page.

Dataverse Permissions

To access the permissions for a dataverse, click on the Edit button then select Permissions.

Permissions page for a dataverse.

By clicking on the Edit Access button, you are able to change the settings allowing no one or anyone to add either dataverses or datasets to a dataverse.

You can also give access to a Dataverse user to allow them to access an unpublished dataverse as well as other roles. To do this, click on the Assign Roles to Users/Groups button in the Users/Groups section. You can also give multiple users the same role at one time.

Dataset Permissions

Permissions for a dataset are found under the Edit button on a dataset page. Once you click on Permissions, you will see there is an option for Dataset and for Files. The page for dataset permissions looks very similar to the dataverse permissions page minus the Edit Access section at the top.

The files permissions page has two sections: Users/Groups and Files. You can either grant access to a user through the top section or use the bottom section to grant multiple users access to a restricted file as well as easily see how many users have access to a particular file.
